Things You Can Do To Fix Your Windows Registry

There are a variety of things that you can try to do to fix any Windows registry problems you might be encountering, the problem is that some of the things you might do could be just as dangerous to your computer's health as the registry issue itself. Just so that you can be aware of what you're getting into, here's a list of the various things you might do to fix your Windows registry problems.

*Do it yourself

Most people don't realize how harmful is can actually be to try and fix a Windows registry problem themselves if they don't fully understand the complexity of the system itself.  This is because a Windows registry can be fairly simple to make edits to, but if you aren't sure of what you might be getting yourself into you could very easily find that you are now in a messier situation than you were to begin with.

One of the most common ways that people try and make changes to their Windows registry is that when they get the pop up that describes the error it will generally tell you the name of the software that is giving you so many problems.  They will then take the name of this program and go into the registry to try and locate what is causing the computer to malfunction in the registry.

To accomplish this goal, you must first know how to open the registry.  It's really a lot easier to do than you would think. First of all, you will need to go to the start menu in the lower left-hand corner, open up run, and type "regedit" in the dialogue box.  Once you have done this it will engage the registry editor to allow you to make the necessary edits.  However, you could find yourself in an even more problematic situation if you change the wrong registry item.  Even if you fix the original problem you could still find that you changed the wrong thing in the process, and this could easily leave your Windows registry in worse shape than it was before.

*Find a computer geek to do it for you

Many people claim that they are computer experts in this technologically advanced age, and you probably even have several different relatives or friends who say they can fix your computer woes.  This can also be a tricky fix to the problem because so many times these "experts" are not as familiar with editing a Windows registry problem as they claim.  Sometimes these computer geeks can get over-zealous when tinkering with equipment that isn't their own, and if they don't manage to fix the problem at the end of the day you could still have a non-functioning computer to deal with.

There are exceptions to this rule, for example, if you do know someone who works with computers as a programmer or IT guy and you trust them with your equipment, then it is probably not a bad idea to give them a call.  They will probably have encountered this problem before and know the appropriate registry scanner and other repair software that you could use to fix your problem.  It can often be overwhelming when you try to go in and look at all the different options to try and find an appropriate solution on your own, so don't hesitate to call in an experienced friend to help you in this decision.

*Download a Windows registry scanner

For all the various ways to try and go about fixing a registry problem, a Windows registry scanner is probably the most sound and secure method of fixing the situation quickly and correctly the first time around.  This is because the repair tools on this software are likely to encounter problems that you didn't even know existed in your Windows registry.  Even if a person where to try and manually go through the entire registry, it is unlikely that they will know everything on the registry that is causing problems.

The best way for you to find out what Windows registry fixer is the best one for you to use is probably relying on knowledgeable friends and family who may have encountered this problem before or you can go to online research tools like ours. The most important thing that you will need to look for in a repair tool is one that properly scans, repairs, compacts, and backs up the registry.
